Youthlab: learning from young ex-offenders
22 December 2017
In 2017 our Youthlab participants trained youth prosecutors, they advised the City of Amsterdam and thought along with the Probation Service of Rotterdam about how the supervision of young people after release can better suit the needs of the young people. Two youths have even been trained as 'buddies' of young people currently in detention in KV Amsterdam and JJI Teylingereind. In addition, YiP also helps young people within youth institutions to think along with policy.
In December, commissioned by the Ministry of Justice & Security, YiP evaluated the new plans for the 'prison of the future' (VIV-JJ) with five young people from the long-stay ward of JJI Het Poortje in Veenhuizen. Through workshops storytelling and (improvisation) theather, young people gave their opinion on this. The meeting will be sent to the Minister of Justice and Security in January.
From 2018 YiP will train the boys of the Youthlab i.s.m. consultancy firm Berenschot B.V, in addition, former detainees will also train and coach judges. There is much to learn from ex-detainees. Also in 2018!
